Valerie HallerValerie is an Elementary Education Teacher with a Bachelor’s degree from Central Michigan University and a Master’s degree from Saginaw Valley State University. She is an early childhood specialist with a ZA Endorsement in Early Childhood development and classical training in the Reggio Emilia approach. Valerie has taught preschool and kindergarten in the public schools for over twenty-two years and taught master’s level courses in early childhood education at Saginaw Valley State University. Valerie’s contribution to the field of education extends into the classrooms of her colleagues. In 2009 she developed an assessment tracking guide to assist teachers in their use of standardized tests as a way to monitor student progress and drive instruction in the classroom. The easy to implement tracking guide is now used in many early education classrooms throughout the Bay City Public School district to help teachers stay focused on meeting the individual needs of each student during instruction. In addition to her love of early childhood education, Valerie has three passions that reach beyond the classroom, her family, horses and health. She lives with her husband of twenty years and their two sons ages sixteen and twelve on a horse rescue ranch, a non-profit organization she co-founded in 2002. The family shares the responsibility of caring for the horse’s daily needs and creating a peaceful environment for their equine guests. As a way to maintain health, Valerie took up the sport of triathlons. She entered the sport claiming to not be competitive. However, in the past three years she has participated in nine triathlons, placing first (twice), second (three times) and third (four times). She enjoys swimming with her youngest son, Parker, biking with her husband, Thomas and running with her teenage son, Reese, sometimes all in the same day.
